TNB Review: Did We Just Find the Next Viral Haircare Product?

In the world of beauty, where innovation constantly redefines our rituals, a new frontier is emerging: fermentation. While fermentation itself is ancient, its integration into beauty and wellness products marks a modern revolution. Icons like Beyoncé have embraced this trend, infusing it into her latest haircare line, Cécred.

Enter The Rootist, a trailblazing brand championing the power of fermentation. At its core is the exclusive Rootbiomic Ferment, a game-changing ingredient replacing traditional water in all their products. This innovative approach yields a potent blend, akin to a nourishing multivitamin for your hair, roots, and scalp. Through fermentation, nutrients become more readily absorbed, leading to stronger and healthier hair. Clinical studies demonstrate that just one application of their BioBrew can triple hair strength. By eschewing water, which offers no benefits, in favor of Rootbiomic Ferment, users can optimize their haircare routine with minimal waste.

MY HAIR

As someone with dreadlocks, I know firsthand how dryness can be a constant struggle for my hair and scalp. Dreadlocks can make it even more challenging to maintain moisture since the hair is tightly woven together, making it harder for natural oils to distribute evenly. This often leads to dryness and irritation on my scalp, which can be uncomfortable. With their formulations expertly crafted to combat dryness, I couldn’t wait to experience the Rootist’s products firsthand.

The Products

The Rootist Strengthen Shampoo

Strengthen Concentrated Shampoo: $30.00

What it does:

  • Maintains scalp balance for stronger, healthier-looking hair
  • Concentrated formula with no added water is less wasteful and more powerful
  • Reduces frizz and improves moisture, strength, and shine

The Strengthen Concentrated Shampoo comes in a recyclable aluminum package. It’s recommended to use half your usual recommended amount as the product is concentrated due to none of the products having any added water. I found that this shampoo lathered nicely and felt like a great clean while still not being incredibly stripping.

Strengthen Concentrated Conditioner
Strengthen Concentrated Conditioner: $32.00

What it does:

  • Reduces frizz and improves smoothness, strength, and shine
  • Concentrated formula with no added water is less wasteful and more powerful
  • Formulated without silicones, so won’t weigh down hair

After using the accompanying shampoo, I was amazed at how deeply hydrated my hair felt. Not only did it feel lighter, but it also had a noticeable sheen. For someone with dry hair that tends to easily dull, my hair felt revitalized and nourished.

AHA+ACV Pre-Shampoo Scalp Clarifying Rinse

AHA+ACV Pre-Shampoo Scalp Clarifying Rinse: $32.00

What it does:

  • Removes excess oil and product buildup
  • Gently exfoliates dry, flaky scalp
  • Helps refresh and restore scalp balance so healthy-looking hair can take root

The AHA+ACV pre-shampoo clarifying rinse quickly became a standout in the Rootist’s product lineup for me. As someone with thick hair prone to product and oil buildup between re-twists, finding effective cleansing solutions can be challenging. This clarifying rinse provided the ideal solution, setting the perfect foundation for my wash routine. Not only did it effectively cleanse my scalp, but it also provided gentle exfoliation, leaving my scalp feeling refreshed and revitalized.

BioBrew™ Fermented Strengthening Serum

BioBrew™ Fermented Strengthening Serum: $48.00

What it does:

  • Promotes up to three times less hair breakage in just one use
  • Protects hair from heat up to 450ºF / 232ºC
  • Controls frizz for up to 72 hours

While the Rootist’s product line offers a range of effective solutions, this particular product didn’t quite meet the needs of my hair type. As someone with dreadlocks, I avoid applying heat and don’t struggle much with frizz, so this product didn’t align with my specific requirements. Its application method, involving spraying three pumps away from the scalp and combing through, didn’t suit dreadlocks well. However, I did appreciate the lightweight formula and pleasant floral scent of the product, even though its functionality didn’t translate to my hair needs.

The Rootist offers a range of products tailored to combat dryness and nourish hair effectively. While some, like the Strengthen Concentrated Shampoo and the AHA+ACV pre-shampoo clarifying rinse, proved to be exceptional additions to my routine, others, like the anti-frizz serum, didn’t quite meet the unique needs of my dreadlocks. Nonetheless, their commitment to quality and innovation is evident, making the Rootist a brand worth exploring for anyone seeking hydration and revitalization for their hair.
